Spinal Fusion Avoidance with the Sonosculpt® Procedure

Sonospine®, takes minimally invasive spinal surgery into the future with advanced surgical ultrasound and its Sonosculpt procedure.  At Sonospine®, we have a talented group of surgeons and medical professionals. Dr. Ellegala works with industry leaders, like Misonix, to develop and refine the most effective tools and techniques. Sonospine is constantly working to improve spine surgery and holds 22 patent claims in ultrasonic surgery, all with the goal of improving patient’s lives.

Unlike other minimally invasive spine surgeries which use rongeurs, similar to pliers, to remove large pieces of bone, Sonospine® developed the sonosculpt procedure which uses ultrasound technology similar to the ultrasonic toothbrush. High frequency vibration of the tip of the ultrasonic tool allows the spine surgeon to precisely remove bone and disc. This precision achieves a greater level of accuracy than any other type of spine surgery. This level of control results in faster recovery and resolution on of pain, and the fewest possible complications.

Dr. Ellegala and the Sonospine Team believe in trying to avoid spine surgery if possible and 85 percent of the time surgery is not necessary for spine problems. However, when conservative methods such as physical therapy and pain management are not enough then spine surgery may be the best option. Sonospine’s Clinicians will go over all surgical options from traditional surgery to the Sonospine techniques.  Sonospine’s procedures are outpatient, same day surgeries and 88% of our patients in our initial series perceive their post-surgery results as excellent 4 weeks after surgery. If you have exhausted non-surgical options and are still hurting, Sonospine® Ultrasonic Surgery can return you to the pain-free mobility you once enjoyed.
